Parity on Bidirectional Microprocessor Bus

Microprocessors typically have an 8-bit bidirectional data bus. It is frequently necessary to generate and check the parity of data on the data bus. This can be achieved using the circuit shown above which uses a common circuit for both parity generation and parity checking, either odd or even.
