A part of an interactive display control system is shown above which automatically changes the vertical spacing and vertical dimensions of characters in information, such as operator messages to be displayed, in response to the length of the information. That is, the character size and spacing is tailored to occupy as much of the screen as possible, thereby increasing the legibility of the information.
