Abstract

Macroscopic resonances between the device inductance and the junction capacitance exist in three-junction interferometers. In such devices, there are two main resonances, as illustrated schematically in Figs. 1A and 1B. These resonances produce current steps in the I-V characteristic which prevent switching to the voltage determined by the load line, as illustrated in Fig. 2. In an ideal device, these resonance amplitudes are of the order of 0.5 I(mo) so that operation with loads intersecting the below-gap tunneling resistance becomes impossible. However, such loads are required for interferometer logic devices.
