A technique is described for reducing the number of bytes of user address space required for data buffers as an enhancement to the IBM Series/1 Real Time Programming System. Input/output (I/O) operations are handled using the Series/1 hardware architecture to move data directly into the auxiliary address space. Data is moved into the user address space under user control so that only fields actually used need be moved.
