Splatter may occur in ink jet printing when one drop impacts the spot formed by a prior drop before the ink spreads out and soaks into the paper. At that instant, the prior drop has actually formed a puddle and not a printed spot. Splatter of this type occurs when succeeding drops impact succeeding adjacent positions on the paper.
