Sine-wave oscillators which are AC coupled within the positive feedback loop fail to start up if the initial charge on the coupling element or the DC biasing is such that the initial voltages give rise to a stable, i. e., latched state. This consideration often leads to selection of a configuration with no AC coupling which will have good start-up characteristics, but will also have disadvantages such as high power or poor frequency stability or poor amplitude stability.
