System to System Communication via SIOC

Computer systems having a serial I/O channel (SIOC), such as IBM's System/3, can be connected to each other with a cable which connects the SIOC of one system to the SIOC of the other system. By this connecting arrangement, data can be transferred between systems on a byte basis. This provides higher data transfer rates, because heretofore data transfer from system to system was done by some bit-oriented communications device like the binary synchronous communications attachment (BSCA).
