As disclosed in Fig. 1 and in the U.S. Patent 3,587,073, a typical means of clamping disks onto a driving hub comprises a load clamp applying pressure to a plurality of disks separated by spacer rings. A problem arises in that asperities on the disks, clamps or spacer rings set up stresses that affect the flatness of the disks. To overcome this, the inner diameter of the disk may be grooved as shown in Fig. 2 or at least the outer layers of the rings may be made of a yielding material, as shown in Fig. 3.
