Card-on-board connector systems make use of spring connectors and have injection-molded plastic spring retainers or guides which serve to encase the spring connectors and prevent damage to them during I/O pin insertion. In assemblies of this type, signals from any pin can induce signals that are unwanted in adjacent pins. This is known as noise, and it is desirable to shield each pin from the other.
