A pair of alternately operable direct memory access chips (DMAs) can be used for fast, efficient data retrieval from a random-access memory or read-only storage. Their use can also obviate the transfer of data through the central processing unit (CPU) and, instead, transfer the retrieved data directly to the using buffer.
