Half Duplex to Full Duplex Asynchronous Adapter Architecture for Fast Turnaround Data Channels

This article describes adapter architecture which permits the adapter to be used with a half-duplex modem to provide a logical full-duplex data interface. The adapter is intended to be used with a data channel in which the direction of communication can be quickly reversed. More specifically, the adapter is designed for use with a 2400 bps modem using minimum shift keying (MSK) modulation for transmitting through on-site telephone networks, i.e., those networks which stay within a private branch exchange or similar device, thus avoiding the impairments of long-haul carrier systems of the public telephone network.
