Motion of forms in a line printer is controlled more accurately. In the system shown, "velocity" control positions the forms approximately, and "position" control precisely positions the forms. The system utilizes incremental motion control and consists of a velocity/detent reference generator 1, a servo amplifier 2, with torque control 3 for a brushless motor 4, a brushless motor power amplifier 5, a brushless motor/tachometer 6, a brushless tachometer multiplexer 7, and a high resolution encoder 8.
