For detecting the presence of cards in a stacker, radiant-type document sensor assemblies having light-emitting diode (LED) light sources are widely used. However, the relatively low light output of LEDs places limitations on the mounting of these assemblies relative to the card path, and also, LEDs require a ripple or surge-free power supply since LEDs pass spikes and may be destroyed by current spikes.
