Escrow unit 18 comprises a metal box pivoted on shaft 20 by motor 24. When collecting coins, the top of box 15 is shown in its open position to receive the coins inserted in slot 13 of coin acceptor 12 through coin chute 16. Also, in this position, escrow unit 18 is in position to receive bills inserted through slot 11 into bill validator 10 through bill chute 14. The open top 17 of box 18 is of a larger area than the closed bottom 19 so that coins and bills will not jam in escrow box 18.
Escrow unit 15 is rotated through angle 42 to deposit its contents into money cup chute 30 for return to the operator through cup 32. Escrow box 18 is rotated through angle 44 to deposit its contents into security box chute 34 for delivery to security box 36, where the money may be collected at a later time by security personnel. Power off mechanical dump apparatus 26 permits operating personnel to deposit the contents of escrow unit 18 into money cup chute 30 when there is a malfunction of the apparatus.
