Two Dimensional Area Thermal Profiling
A thermal
sensitive film was developed to permanently record
temperatures and thermal gradients present from contacting or
non-contacting heat source(s) at a particular surface or an interface
between two contacting surfaces.
In the Figure
the film 1 is shown at the interface between a
hot blade 2 and circuit card pads 3 on circuit board 4. The film is
composed of thermal sensitive material 5 positioned between two inert
cover sheets 6. The cover sheets 6 are
designed to minimize lateral
heat transfer. The heat sensitive layer
5 of the film is able to
change color or physical structure based on the maximum temperature
seen by the material at a given point.
Thus individual temperatures
are able to be determined and the nature of the thermal sensitive
material allows thermal gradients to be established.
