Electromagnetic Interference Corner Clip
Disclosed is
a device that provides Electromagnetic
Interference (EMI) shielding at the door corners of electronic
enclosures. It is an alternative in
meeting EMI shielding
requirements.
It consists of
a double meshed "P" shaped gasket that is hemmed
inside a formed spring tempered corner clip to provide EMI leakage
protection at door corners of electronic enclosures. An additional
length of double mesh is provided to be sleeved over the vertical and
horizontal sections of the door's main gaskets thereby affecting a
continuous seal around the door. Fraying
is prevented by the
intertwining of the mesh. A sealer is
thereby eliminated. The mesh
can be wrapped around itself, an elastomer or other appropriate
filler.
Currently,
EMI protection at the doors of electronic enclosures
is provided through several means. These
include the use of discrete
lengths of roll, formed clip-on designs that require some sort of RTV
or similar sealer on the edges to prevent fraying of the mesh gasket.
The use of discrete lengths, combined with the sealer, results in an
approximate opening at the corners of 1/4" to 5/8". This gap allows
EMI leakage into and out of the enclosure at frequencies with
wavelengths smaller than the opening.
This leakage may allow
erroneous electronic signals to reach the enclosed equipment thereby
causing equipment malfunction or failure.
