a system for changing characters of key tops
of a keyboard used in a POS system.
A keyboard 1
of the POS system includes plural keys. The key
includes a transparent cap 2, a small flat panel display element 3, a
connecting plate 4 for supplying electrical signals to the small flat
panel display element 3, a base member 5 and a display buffer 6.
system includes a key-top control program, an
application program, a communication program and a memory. The memory
stores plural tables, each of which includes one set of character
images to be displayed on the keys.
A host system
sends a command, which specifies character images
to be displayed on the key tops, to the application program through
the communication program. The application program decodes the
command to access one of the tables, e.g., Table 1, to send the
character images in Table 1 to the key top control program. The
key-top control program stores the character images in the display
buffer 6. One character box 7 of the display buffer 6 stores the
character images for the small flat panel display element 3.
for specifying the table can be supplied from a
control key on an operator panel of the POS system.
