Membrane Seal for CRT Touch Screens
Disclosed is
a membrane seal for strain gauge
touch-screens fitted to cathode ray tube (CRT) monitors. The seal is
designed to prevent liquids and particles entering the monitor under
messy environments encountered in, for example, the food, drink and
vehicle maintenance trades.
Refer to the
figure which shows a section of a display monitor
CRT bracket 5 secured to its bezel 2. A
membrane seal 1 is shaped to
surround the periphery of the CRT outside the viewing area, and with
the inside edge of membrane 1 bonded to the CRT 3 face at 4. The
outer edge of membrane 1 is bonded to the bezel 2. The inner and
outer edges of membrane 1 are shaped such that it flexes and there is
no physical impedence to the normal operation of the strain gauge
system from which the X, Y and Z values for finger touch are
calculated. An outer trim panel 6 is
fitted framing and isolating
the seal from the user, protecting also the seal from damage. Trim
panel 6 can be removed as required to clean off debris from around
the seal 1.
