Abstract

The Intersite Line Comparison (ILC) system accepts reports generated in or by other systems for dissemination to all of the participating user locations and displays them for authorized users. Many of the files take the form of graphic reports that can easily be viewed if the user has a host-connected terminal. However, if the user has a PC, he requires some specialized programs to be installed into his PC in order to view host-based graphic reports or files. In order to enable the users to view graphic files, the ILC system provides a USER SERVICES category, whereby a prepackaged set of the necessary PC programs is provided for the user. All that is required is that the user enter a simple command, i.e., HOSTGRAF, and the system loads this package onto his file list.

User Services - Providing Easy Access to Program Packages

The Intersite Line Comparison (ILC) system accepts
reports generated in or by other systems for dissemination to all of
the participating user locations and displays them for authorized
users. Many of the files take the form of graphic reports that can
easily be viewed if the user has a host-connected terminal.  However,
if the user has a PC, he requires some specialized programs to be
installed into his PC in order to view host-based graphic reports or
files. In order to enable the users to view graphic files, the ILC
system provides a USER SERVICES category, whereby a prepackaged set
of the necessary PC programs is provided for the user. All that is
required is that the user enter  a simple command, i.e., HOSTGRAF,
and the system loads this package onto his file list.  This service
is provided because of a recognition that a potential exists for a
tremendous labor-saving capability.  By spending a mere several days
of effort in pulling this package together and properly preparing it
for the hundreds of users that have a need, we have saved literally
thousands of man hours and untold frustrations on the part of our
customers.  Because ILC is worldwide in its applications, this
benefit is immediately available anytime ILC is installed on a VM
node.

HOSTGRAF "bundles" the host emulation support, and host
graphics support software into a single package which the average
user is capable of inst...
