Electronic window for ships

Seasickness is a problem widely experienced by passengers and crew on ships. One of the main reasons for seasickness is a mismatch of perception between the internal balancing organs of the human body, and the external movement of the ship or boat. It is widely known that seasickness is less experienced on deck, as the horizon serves as a visual holdfast.

The present invention proposes to install electronic windows on ships, particularly on the inside and in rooms where no windows to the outside are present, and to use artificial horizons presented on these windows. These artificial horizons moving in substantially real time in line with the movements of the ship, to provide the user with a visual holdfast, and thus to alleviate seasickness of the user. These electronic windows in addition can serve to bring a more realistic lighting experience to the ships inhabitants.

The electronic window (100) is mounted on a wall in a room of a ship (106). An artificia l horizon (108) that is oriented in line with the real horizon (200) is presented on the electronic window (100). In the figure a camera (114) mounted on the exterior of the ship (106) or boat records a view of the real horizon (200) in real time. This view is then shown on the electronic window (100), which comprises a display screen.
