(S)-(+)-N,N-Dimethyl-3-(1-naphthalenyloxy)-3-(2-thienyl)propanamine oxalate

(S)-(+)-N,N-Dimethyl-3-(1-naphthalenyloxy)-3-(2-thienyl)propanamine oxalate (ATNAP-Oxal) is used as intermediate in the preparation of  (+)-(S)-N-Methyl-(1-naphthyloxy)-2-thiophene-propylamine hydrochloride.

Form IX crystal may be identified by an X-ray powder diffraction pattern with peaks at 15.6, 17.2, 17.8, 22.7 and 23.4 degrees two-theta, ± 0.2 degrees two-theta.  Form IX crystal may be identified further by X-ray powder diffraction peaks at 6.6, 19.0, 20.4 and 27.4 degrees two-theta, ± 0.2 degrees two-theta.

X-Ray Powder Diffraction analysis was performed on Scintag X-ray powder diffractometer model X’TRA with a Cu-tube solid state detector.  The sample holder was a round standard aluminum sample holder with rough zero background quartz plate with a cavity having a diameter of 25 mm and a depth of 0.5 mm.  The scanning parameters were as follows: a range of 2 to 40°2θ; a continuous scan mode, and a step size of 0.05° at a rate of 3°/minute.

Process description:

The process for preparing crystal form IX of ATNAP-Oxal comprises: dissolving ATNAP-Oxal in ethyl acetate, adding oxalic acid to the solution until a crystalline form is obtained, and recovering the crystalline form.
