It is common to find documents with different blocks of text that use different languages. For example, one may have a user manual that is aimed to cater to an English, Spanish, French and German audience. In the current art, word processing programs typically do not have the ability to allow a user to associate different handling rules with blocks of text in a document that are of different languages. Method for Associating Differing Rules with Blocks of Differing Language Text

Product instruction manuals typically come with several languages either in a single booklet or on very large sheets of paper. The generation of these instruction manuals requires the ability to spell and grammar check the sections of the document with their respective language. Currently most manuals are generated independently and then assembled together at print time in order to work around the problem of language specificity.

The proposed invention will allow for a writer of a document to associate different handling rule metadata with blocks of text within their document. Accordingly, when a spell check or grammar rule check is run on the entire document, different spell check/grammar rule check engines can be spawned which are associated with the type of text block being analyzed.

When composing a document, a user will be able to choose a block of text and specify metadata for the text. For example, one may highlight a block of text and specify through a context menu that the block of text is "German". A given document may contain multiple blocks of text which will each in turn have different metadata associated with them. For example, a separate block in the document may be associated with "Spanish."

Upon a subsequent spell check of the document, the word processing program will invoke the correct spell check dictionary for the text block being analyzed. The same language-specific scrutiny is applicable for grammar checks. One can extend the association of spell checker/grammar checker to the run-time composition of documents that is seen in Microsoft Word, which auto-corrects documents while writing. In the case of the current invention, the word processor will auto-correct based upon the rules for the text block which is being written. The "rule...
