Typically when one wants to eject certain USB devices such as an external hard drive or memory card reader, one has to explicitly instruct the operating system that one wants to remove these devices. This is necessary in order to instruct the operating system to flush any unwritten data to the USB device. This paper describes a device that allows the user to press a button on the cable of the device that is going to be unplugged. The advantage of this over previous work is that it allows existing devices to retrofitted without having to change the device's hardware.
