A system is described herein that detects, profiles and configures mobile devices in a mobile web hosting and development environment. A device profiler detects an http request from a mobile browser and determines whether or not the mobile browser is a known browser. The system utilizes a browser capabilities database, which stores known capabilities for mobile browsers. If the browser is known, the corresponding information is sent to the website hosting the device profiler. if the browser is unknown to the system, the system searches different resources (e.g. manufacturer’s website) for the important information. Once the information is discovered, it is entered into the browser capabilities database. This system updates and collects information automatically to ensure compatibility with as many mobile browsers as possible.
