In order to ensure the operating of forced-air cooled systems used for cooling of electronics, it is necessary to supervise the air media filter. At present, this problem is solved by manual replacement of the filter at predetermined intervals or by using onboard temperature or pressure monitoring to detect limited operating performance. These methods are mostly cost intensive or time consuming and cannot avoid unstable operating performance. Therefore, a novel solution is proposed which contains a flow sensor unit circuit pack (e.g. CFSU-1) which is implemented exemplarily into a DWDM based optical transport platform such as "Surpass hiT 7300" for optical network systems (DWDM: Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing). The proposed flow sensor unit circuit pack enables an automatic supervision of the air media filter by monitoring the air flow of the system. In case the air flow decreases to a predetermined level, an alarm is triggered by the system.
