In manufacturing, Quality Control is applied to ensure that fabricated products meet customer requirements. Generally, in order to keep expenses low and to get a standardized rating, automation of the controlling procedures is desired. In the print industry, usually human experts carry out the print quality inspection, which renders a real-time inspection impossible due to the high speed of the conveyors. Thus, the production needs to be stopped for a sample collection, which reduces the production capacity. Since the controls are not continuous, situations may occur where large amounts of prints are recalled because of poor quality. Moreover, each human expert has his own perception of quality so that the quality judgment varies. An automated system on the contrary can provide a repeatable and reliable rating.
