Many persons are publishing digital images, created by digital cameras or cell phones, in the Internet and find their photos some time later on foreign Internet sites. They see their copyright violated but have no means to prove the origin of the digital image and protect their ownership rights. There is a need for providing a user-friendly way of protecting user-generated pictures. Currently, the ownership (or copyright information) of user-created digital images are not protected. The images contain usually so-called EXIF (Exchangeable Image File Format) data that encodes meta-information of the image (used camera model, exposure time, FNumber (lens aperture), resolution, time, position). The EXIF data can easily be manipulated e.g. modified or removed and provides therefore no ownership protection.
