One of the fastest growing technologies is Virtualization. In IBM*’s Virtual I/O environment, a Virtual I/O (VIO) server partition can provide external network access to one or more VIO client partitions via virtual adapters. When the VIO server is the only external network access point, the Shared Ethernet Adapter can become a performance bottleneck. Hence, a typical configuration is to use two VIO servers. Using Virtual LAN (VLAN) and etherchannels in Network Interface Backup mode, the traffic from the VIO clients are distributed across the two VIO servers.
