Metaforces: Frequency Dependent Positive and Negative Forces Associated with Metamaterials

The sign of the electromagnetic force acting on a metamaterial having negative or positive permittivity and/or permeability values was considered theoretically and experimentally. Preliminary low frequency experimental results are reported that demonstrate the stimulus of an electromagnetic force on a negative parameter metamaterial that is directed opposite to the force acting on its positive valued counterpart by tuning the frequency of the excitation field through a resonance of the metamaterial.
