This idea proposes an improved method of implementing a Parallel RIP (raster image processing) feature in a Print Server. The current implementation may not always perform optimally due to limitations in the PostScript master splitting technology. This idea proposes a new page level independent Ready To Image (RTI) format consisting of imaging assembly instructions as well as image data, fonts, and other PDL (page description language) resources that only need to be played back to effect logical page rendering. PDL specific interpreters would be used as front end translators to process masters into the RTI format. An RTI interpreter performs the actual logical page rendering and would have all of the information it needs to facilitate parallel processing.
