In many connections it becomes more and more common to use wireless signals (radio or other kinds of wireless signals, like light, infrared etc.) for controlling and regulating various units, for example in connection with computer systems, buildings, including, for example, heating, ventilation, light, gates, doors etc. , or any other places.  Depending on the placing of the intelligence in the system itselt, a loss (temporary or permanent) of the wireless connection between two units will cause problems (gates that cannot be opened) or discomfort (a ventilation system that no longer works in an optimal manner) for a consumer.

In connection with floor heating systems, wireless systems comprising the following parts are known: a central unit (controller) located next to the manifold, the central unit controlling the actuators placed on the manifold by means of a wired electrical connection. The central unit then has wireless connection to thermostats placed in the individual rooms. These thermostats measure the temperatures of the rooms, compare them to the value set on the thermostat and then send a wireless signal to the controller. As the whole “system intelligence” of such a system is placed in the controller, and the controller has direct “access” to the actuators placed on the manifold, a faiIure of the wireless connection in such a system for a certain period will not be critical, as the system can just continue in an unchanged manner for a shorter or a longer period.
