New CDM lamp cap

For HID lamps, in particular for ceramic metal halide lamps (315W & 210W), a new fitting has been developed, implying a new lamp cap design. In Fig. 1 an embodiment is shown of a lamp holder mounted with a lamp.

The new lamp cap is based upon the existing PGZ12 lamp cap: pre-focussed

distance between contact pins (centre-centre) : 18,0 +/- 0,25 mm

In Figure 2 a sketch is shown of a possible embodiment of the lamp cap before a lamp is mounted. The cap housing consists of classic ceramic material. A suitable material for contact pins is lead-free stainless steel type 303 (Euronorm X8 CrNiS18-9 or JIS SUS303).

For a practical embodiment the main features and dimensions are listed below.
- Pinch geometry for a lamp having a Ø28x1.5 mm outer bulb :
o Total width 27,5 ± 0,5 mm
o Thickness main pinch 3,6 ± 0,3 mm
o Lengtĥ 20,0 mm
- Reference point for lamp insertion
- Lamp outer bulb pinch fixation: mechanical spring(s)
- Creeping distance & clearance: min. 8.0 mm (for max. voltage 4 kV @ 140 kHz resonant (re-)ignition)

The mechanical fixation between the lamp cap and the lamp outer bulb is realised by means of metal springs. In Figures 3 and 4 alternatives of metal springs are shown.
