Abstract

A method is proposed for automated assignment of Secondary Color Codes for use in an EVDO cellular telecommunications network management subsystem. Secondary Color codes are allowed by the 3GPP2 EV DO Rev A standard to be configured for transmission to a mobile terminal or handset to facilitate handoff across a Base Station Controller (BSC) border. An RNC is identified by a unique color code sent on the sector parameters message (SPM) of all sectors under that BSC. The method and solution described offers an automated approach to configuring the Secondary Color Codes that does not require the operator to manually assign them and therefore offers the network operator an improvement in expenses related to manual network configuration, operations and control.
