The technical invention disclosed herein relates to head restraints for vehicles, more specifically for Active Head Restraints which actuates a forward movement of an impact element portion of the head restraint in the event of a crash to reduce the risk of injuries in particular to the neck area, so called whiplash injuries. Active Head Restraints has an impact element portion that is movable from a retracted, normal use position, to a forward, crash active position. In the event of a crash, the impact element portion of the head restraint moves from a retracted to a crash active position in closer proximity to the occupant’s head. This is to prevent a backward movement of the occupant’s head which causes a rapid bending movement of the occupant’s neck and consequently whiplash injuries.
