Disclosed is a method and system for automatically initiating an installation process on an application server appliance upon connecting the application server appliance with a client device. The client device is connected to the application server appliance via a Universal Serial Bus (USB) cable. Once the USB cable is connected from the application server appliance to the client device, a USB mass storage device (here after referred to as a USB device) is automatically mounted. In effect, the USB device appears as a file-system to the client device. Subsequently, a program residing on the USB device is automatically executed. The execution of the program initiates an automatic detection of an Operating System (OS) residing on the client device. Upon detecting the OS, a web browser is detected on the client device. Thereafter, the web browser invokes an interactive web application for performing the installation process on the application server appliance.
In order to initiate the installation process on the application server appliance, an automatic look-up for a web browser is performed on the client device. In case the look-up results in detecting an incompatible web browser, a list of compatible web browsers is displayed to a user of the client device. Upon displaying the list of compatible web browsers, the user may select a web browser from the list. In order to select the web browser, the user is prompted to provide a location of an executable file corresponding to the web browser selected. However, if there are no web browsers present in the client device, a web browser residing on the USB device is launched. Once the web browser is detected, an instance of the web browser is invoked which points towards a web page in order to initiate an interactive web application for performing the installation process on the application server appliance.
Further, the interactive web application performs a...
