1. Title: Low Cost Machine Construction Method
2. Background of the Invention:
a. Equipment Involved: Method of Construction
b. Problem to be solved / improvement needed: The need for a simple, flexible, low cost machine construction concept for fabricating conveyors and packaging equipment.
3. Invention Description:
a. Short Statement of Solution / Improvement: A construction method which utilizes the inexpensive and accurate manufacturing technique in laser cutting sheet metal with the inexpensive assembly technique of a common hex head fastener and nut.
b. Sketch / Drawings / Photos: See Photographs Below
c. Attached description: Piece 1 has a profile with two tabs which mate locate piece 1 to piece 2 and also help keep piece 1 from rotating relative to piece 2. Additionally a profile is made in piece 1 to accommodate a nut and is made in such a way that the nut is not allowed to rotate. Piece 2 has a clearance hole for the bolt with two notches which accept the tabs of piece 1.
4. Advantages of Invention / Improvement
a. All parts can be made using laser cutting of sheet metal (low cost).
b. Nut is captured in profile so you only need one secure the bolt fastener.
c. No bending or welding operations are required.
d. Minimizes assembly techniques.
