The device comprises a left-handed thread on an existing luer lock connector (Figure 2). This would be a positive lock out from misconnection. The actual connection (6-degree taper), wetted parts, etc. of the standard design would remain unchanged and so would follow existing standards. The external left hand threads are not a part of the existing standards, but the current design is 'mirrored' and is very functionally close to the original. Other external geometric changes are made to the existing design that would act as keyways to protect against misconnection.
