Abstract

This idea proposes a new user modality for the manipulation of objects in a 3D virtual scene. The interface method is referred to as Uni-manual Constrained Control (UCC). This interface uses two fingers from a single hand. Typically this is the thumb and index finger from the dominant (D) hand. The D index finger controls amount of translation or rotation. The D thumb (or really any other close proximity touch) cycles through three modes of operation: translation in the horizontal plane, translation in the vertical plane, and rotation on either plane. Either right or left can be the dominant hand. Other combinations of fingers can be used.
