The power consumption of a company or a household is neither constant nor the same on two following days and also depends on a multitude of different aspects. However, the consumption scheme is predictable, there are usually time periods of low consumption, time periods of higher consumption and few short-time periods with consumption peaks. The power consumption peaks has to be minimized as a large amount of energy has to be supplied for a short period of time. This additional energy supply requires high infrastructure investment resulting in higher energy costs during this peak consumption periods. Therefore it is desirable to reduce or ideally completely avoid these peak periods and "flatten" the overall power consumption, leading to reduced energy costs. Disclosed is a method and distributed intelligent system to reduce energy costs by "flattening" the power consumption peaks.
