Smart Surface for Posture Correction Based on Image Body Detection

Body posture detection is a well know technology and is used for a wide variety of applications including detection, treatment, or prevention of diseases. With current technology, the body posture can be totally mapped remotely, making it possible to detect whether or not the current posture is harmful. If the person already has a disease, it is also possible to determine which posture(s) is not recommended for them.

The modern mattresses works combining pistons and foams with springs of different resistances. Such a mechanism is intended to keep the body, especially the back and spinal column, in a correct position through the piston's pressure under the consumer's body.

As the detection of pistons pressure is totally mechanic, the result is mechanic as well. Also, the pistons are not adjustable for all consumers. One of its flaws is that the system does not support adjustments for specific body conditions, such as a disease that affects posture or physically challenged people (PCP). In the case of a mattress for couples, if the weight is too different between the two people sharing the mattress, then the mattress will not be correctly adjusted. [1]

Most mattresses use different resistances according to the consumer's preference and weight. The same material and resistance are all along one area and as time goes by, the mattress material, sponge or springs, depredates according to consumer's position, causing body diseases and aches due to the poor body posture. Also, such mattresses are unable to effectively execute corrections on a consumer's body posture.

This invention proposes a technique for body posture correction on soft surfaces based on body posture detection. The invention detects the body posture and, depending on the person's weight, height, or an already diagnosed disease, analyzes the body posture and detects any positions that might be harmful to that person. For consumers with diagnosed diseases or physical disabilities, the system should be individually configured with the medical assistance. Based on that analysis and according to the parameters provided by the invention, it calculates the correction points and provides this data as input to any device capable of adjusting the soft surface (e.g., mattress, sofa, armchair, car seats, etc.) to correct the body posture. This contributes to the treatment or prevention of the disease or physical disability. For example, where a consumer now selects a mattress based on the given levels of firmness, the disclosed approach is to create a mattress for every kind of body, automatically adjusting for every disease/disability based adjustable surfaces (e.g., pneumatic springs).
