Multifunction Printers (MFPs) and other print devices usually have multiple paper supply trays which are capable of feeding many different media types. Each paper supply tray requires programming the attributes of the contents of the tray. This idea proposes an option for customer’s to create their own list of custom media types and sizes, which would then be uploaded and stored on a common server. The details of the custom media would be held on a server so that any machine in the customer environment could use the same list of media. The workflow could be user-friendly with phrases like "birthday card template" rather than detailed dimension / media information. This would be particularly useful for customers who use a wide variety of custom sizes, weights, or colors. Users could program the attributes one time and be able to reuse that specification in the future on the same or a different print device. The current office workflow is to input individually all the details of each custom media, each time that media is used, which is difficult and time consuming. The proposed method makes it easier to accommodate a wide range of custom media types.
