Abstract

The invention provides a method to remove spike noise in magnetic resonance (MR) images using over sampling of raw data. The method for removing spike noise described herein, involves acquisition of raw data with high sampling rate followed by filtration of data according to user interface prescribed bandwidth. 1D fast fourier transforms of unfiltered raw data allows an object to be imaged to occupy a small central part of the image, referred to herein, as low frequency domain. The part in which no object to be imaged is found is termed as high frequency domain. In the presence of spike noise, the low frequency and high frequency region are manipulated for amplitude, phase and location of the spike noise. Comparison with the unfiltered raw data is carried out for subsequent removal of spike noise from the MR image.
