A method and system for automatically providing an out-of-office notification based on an email address input is disclosed. The notification is provided by checking if an out-of-office message is associated with the email address using an out-of-office engine.

Disclosed is a method and system for automatically providing an out -of-office notification based on an email address input . In a scenario, the method includes receiving the email address input in an email editor while creating an email message . The method further includes invoking an Application Programming Interface (API) associated with the email editor upon receiving the email address input . The API is associated with or integrated with an out-of-office engine of the email editor. In a scenario, the API is configured to determine whether an out -of-office message is associated with an email address in a database of the out -of-office engine. In accordance with the scenario, upon receiving the email address input, the API determines in real-time whether an out-of-office message is associated with the entered email address.
If the API returns that the email address is associated with an out -of-office message, an out-of-office notification is displayed. In a scenario, the out-of-office notification is provided as a prompt. In accordance with the scenario, the prompt includes information suggesting that the email address holder is out-of-office. For example, if the API returns that firstname.lastname@example.org is associated with an out of office message , then the email editor may prompt an email creator accordingly that Mr. A.B is out of office.
