Disclosed is a method and user interface for managing multiple windows on a multi-touch display surface. The method and user interface provides for simultaneous display and management of multiple application windows on devices such as tablets or other larger multi-touch display devices.

In a scenario, the method and user interface provides for displaying and managing multiple windows relating to multiple applications on a multi-touch display surface as illustrated in Fig. 1.

In accordance with the scenario, each application window is implemented with a frame around it as illustrated in Fig. 2.

As illustrated in Fig. 2, the applications functioning in each of the multiple windows can run in the entire sub-display area associated with that window, within its frame. Alternately, the applications can be minimized to a tray area associated with the corresponding device. Further, the application window frames can be adjusted and resized according to the preference of a user by allowing the user to use gestures to move and resize them as required. Also, the application window frames can be maximized to occupy the entire screen space. Additionally, the application window frames can be overlapped.
