Users of handheld devices often have difficulty interpreting a chart displayed on a small screen or view port. When a user is reading a chart on a personal computer, interactive charts can react to mouse position and display a bubble with help or more data for the piece of the chart and that precise data point. A mobile device presents a challenge to

the reader because there is no mouse. The use of the reader's finger or pointing device is not an effective option.

An alternative solution is to use the mobile device hardware (e.g., accelerometer/gyroscope) to assist the user in viewing a chart on a handheld device. When the hardware is set, the reader can manipulate the device position to move the context information on the chart.

The novel contribution of the invention is to enhance the data of a chart by introducing device sensor input to improve the readability of the chart. The advantage is that the reader of the chart can manipulate contextual data of a specific chart area without a pointing device. The sensor input can also be used as input to navigate through multiple charts.
