This document describes a method to keep subscriber units and base station in timeslot timing synchronous state in a TDMA LMR system. In operation, in a repeater-based transmission, a base station establishes and maintains the timeslot boundaries since powers up. The base station will periodically activate its outbound to transmit some bursts over the air in order to inform and resynchronize timeslot boundaries with subscriber units. Once subscriber units acquire the timeslot boundaries, they will learn and maintain the timeslot timing by themselves for pre-defined time duration. In this mode, the extra time for a subscriber unit acquires and synchronizes to a desired timeslot is eliminated, thus improving the system access time.
