Social media sites include the ability to share a wide variety of content including text, images, posts, video, articles, papers, news, audio, etc. Some content that is shared is genuine and other content is fake or untrusted. A method is needed that allows a user to determine whether content shared over social media is authentic.

The novel contribution is a method and system to validate content posted on social media. The user can configure a social networking account by providing one or more reputed news agencies to validate posted content. Once the content is validated, the system adds a validation stamp, along with an appropriate link and news date, to the posted content. This allows the user to visually see and filter content that has been validated and is known to be authentic. When the validation stamp is not provided by the configured news agency(ies), this means that the agency does not support or have information available to validate the content.

To implement the method and system in a preferred embodiment:

1. User configures the social networking site by providing one or more reputed news agencies or content source.

2. If any other user shares any content and the same is available with the user, then the social network software performs the following with the posted contents:

A. Extraction of keywords from the posted contents

B. Semantic analysis of the posted contents
