Disclosed is a method and system for providing a multi-modal collaboration framework. The method and system provides an interactive collaborative annotation framework and environment that provides intuitive visualization of content text as well as annotations in the context of surrounding text. The method and system enables a group of human annotators to collaborate in real-time regarding various tasks related to text annotation, training, adjudication, and curation.
In accordance with the method and system, a web based collaborative framework is provided to enable collaborative capabilities. Users participating in the collaborative framework may meet in real-time in a virtual place to collaborate on a set of documents in a multi-modal manner. The virtual place is an Annotation Room as shown in Fig.1.
Members of the Annotation Room may see and interact with any object that is displayed as illustrated in Fig. 2.

One or more annotators may be invited to an interactive session in the Annotation Room using a Messaging/Notification system. Alternately, questions or information may be broadcasted to others. Members of the Annotation Room may communicate
with each other using Video and Audio communication capabilities . Additionally, multiple annotated or unannotated documents may be opened at a time along with views of particular regions of that document within a canvas area . Interaction of any opened documents may be performed using available tooling control panes . For example, filter the display of annotations based on entity or relevance .
An annotator may login via device of the annotator to a Collaborative Web Framework . The annotator may select from a list of Annotation Rooms which is loaded with one or more documents to annotate. In an embodiment, the annotator may add new documents into the Annotation Room by importing the documents into the system .
Additionally, the annotators may visualize annotation relationships in 3D. The annotators may request for help using a visual signal to show the request to other annotators to enable the annotators to join at the document location to collaborate . An
annotator may request to be notified when other annotators have made changes to a particular area of the document. Further, a request of playback from history of all the annotation activities of one or more users may be requested .

The method and system enables a user to zoom into relevant document sections that show annotations in the context of their surrounding text while other areas of the documents are automatically collapsed/minimized. Additionally, any opened document may be dragged and dropped anywhere on the canvas with the connectors that denote relations appropriately re-arranged so that the annotation results can be more easily understood and compared.
