The method disclosed herein utilizes entity analytics in the back end of a search engine to facilitate Web navigation. From a simple query, the method derives the most relevant and wide-ranging areas for further Web navigation. This allows the user both to receive a broad result display on one screen and to drill down by following links to further related content. The disclosed method also applies Natural Language Processing (NLP) to Web navigation. Rules for entity resolution and relationship determination are based on percentages of content occurrences in Web pages. Rules for entity classification are based on percentages of content occurrences on the Web at large.

According to an embodiment of the present invention, an entity resolution engine with dynamic entity classification uses entity features to individually reference other entities. The disclosed method resolves sets of terms into commonly used phrases and graphical, audio, programmatic, or other types of content. Entity analytics hones Internet content navigation by bringing a broad spectrum of items to the user's immediate attention. On a single screen, the user can see the relationships between terms, phrases, and other content. This content references both entities and entity classes. The method not only shows the most relevant content to the user at once, but also reveals the context that can be added by entity classification, resolution, and relationship determination, to make that context available to the user. The user can then drill down through the results in a variety of discrete directions.

The disclosed method provides a specific set of classification rules for use by an entity Internet Analytics Engine that performs dynamic entity classification (herein an "Internet

Analytics Engine").

The Internet Analytics Engine includes a component that periodically crawls the Internet, making determinations about the classes of content that it finds, and later questioning those determinations as it crawls further.

A browser-driven user interface (UI) component (a "Web Navigator") that interacts with the Internet Analytics Engine. Through a Web Navigator interface, a user submits a query to a database or in-memory data set (maintained by the Internet Analytics Engine) and receives the most relevant results, typically with one or two results per category of findings.

Another aspect of the Internet Analytics Engine is that one entity can include or can be a feature of another (i.e. nested) entity. The ability to programmatically discover nested entities is important because Internet content is nested. It also is important because language terms, as found on the Internet, are successively grouped. That is, more terms can be used to more precisely define entities and their classes.
