Smart Smoke Detector With Integrated Propeller Blades

A smart smoke detector is disclosed herein. The smart smoke detector includes a base unit and a smoke detecting unit. The base unit is installed on the ceiling much like a traditional hard-wired smoke detector. The smoke detecting unit is attached to the base unit using electromagnets. The base unit includes a charging station for battery backup. The base unit also includes integrated blades/fans to help dissipate false-alarm smoke. Figure 1 illustrates an embodiment of the disclosed smoke detector.

According to the present invention, design of the base unit is based on a multi-bladed remote controlled toy helicopter that may be controlled via a smart phone. Blades can also be used as a fan to dissipate smoke if there is a non-threatening situation with cooking or an accidental closed flue on a fireplace. The blades are also used to raise and lower the base unit to a docking location. The electromagnets in the base unit 'docks' the smoke detecting unit responsive to the smoke detecting unit being in air in proximity to the base unit. When docked, the blades may be initiated from a smart phone app, or the base unit may be 'undocked' and 'flown' down to the ground for any required maintenance. Since, the base unit can clear smoke from its location and recharges batteries, the requirement maintenance may be infrequent. Also, the smart phone app can periodically initiate system tests.
